This is really frustrating. I cant sweep because the carpet doesnt let me spin good and I look goofy trying to sweep. Using my left leg for the sweep feels more natural but its the wrong to do it.

I hear ya - the surface can make a big difference on how easy a sweep is. From my experience, the official wushu carpet is REALLY fast and easy to sweep on. Unfortunately, not everybody has access to those to practice on.

What kind of shoes are you using and what kind of carpet are you on? You may want to consider practicing on a slicker surface in the beginning until you get good enough at it. Then, you can go back to the carpet you are using now.

Which part of your foot are you spinning on? That'll make a big difference on how easy you can spin, especially on carpets which are "stickier". If possible, try to post a video for us to look at - we'll be able to provide better feedback with it.
