I m a new Wushu practitioner, I started wushu about 4 months ago...
Well, this is my problem; how hard I push my body into spinning a 540* (without the slap kick), its like stuck right onto 360.I tried forcing my body to do that but then I go out of balance and fall.
Mabye its becuz Im not jumping up high enough,
or mabye im not spinning enough...
has anyonee experienced these problems be4? Any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated...
thx[/b] _________________ ... |

It's hard to tell what you may be doing wrong from just that description. If you could post a video, that would help a lot.
You're right in that it could be either not jumping high enough or not pushing hard enough for the spin. Chances are though that you also aren't positioning your body correctly in the air to spin as fast as your body will let you. You'll need to stay vertical and tight in the air. Also, try leading your spin with your hips.
There's a section in the book on spinning which may help you out. It goes over the fundamentals of generating spin power, optimal spinning body position and drills to help improve your spin. _________________ Maximize your potential with

After some practise I got it to 720!! without the kick of course, but then i tried spinning clockwise...........then....now.....I cant jump to spin to either side!! I keep titlting off to some other direction..loose my balance and fall ..sigh.. D'u know any sort of exercises that can restore my balance and my spin?
And another question, when you practise spinning should you practise with or without the kick? I mean when i was capable of spinning 720, when I tried the jump outside I can jus barely spin 360..Any advice on how i can improve any exercie suggestions?.
Any help or advice'll be highly apprecieted _________________ ... |

Great job on improving your spin! It's pretty common to be better at spinning one direction and not the other. That being said, you should work on both directions (and yes, you can lose something that you got earlier). But don't worry, the mechanics are still the same. Just break it down again and start slow. If you have a mirror (camera is better so you don't look in the mirror too long and throw your spin off), look at yourself and figure out what you're doing wrong.
It may be frustrating but in the world of movement arts, when something goes wrong, the best thing to do is to slow down and break it down to the basics again. This gives your mind a chance to relearn each component of the technique correctly again. If you just try to do it fast, you end up learning the wrong movements even further, slowing your progress by 2x or more.
When just working on the spin, don't put the kick in there. Once you got the spin, then you'll have to learn how to spin properly with a kick in there. So, once you're comfortable with the spin, start putting in the kick. From experience, the kick is what screws most people up. One thing you can try to do to help practice the kick is do them on the ground. After the kick, try to spin as much as possible on the ground while keeping your body straight the whole time. Flexibility is going to be an issue for the jump kicks so make sure you can kick to the desired height easily when on the ground. If not, you're kick is going to be slow but more importantly, you'll likely mess up your spin axis with the kick. _________________ Maximize your potential with
