Hey Everyone. Great website!
I'm hoping someone can help. I am mostly a TaeKwonDo practitioner and I'm trying to improve my jumping and landing on the same leg. I have an incredibly high and fast tornado kick, however I cant keep my non kicking leg tucked and cannot land on my kicking leg.
So I have been trying to break it down and go back to basics to relearn certain techniques. And in my research it led me to Wushu and the Flying Front kick. If I attempt a Flying Front Kick, I always land on the wrong leg.
So I need to retrain my nervous system to keep my left leg tucked while kicking and landing with the right leg.
My question is this, in Wushu, how do you train the flying front kick? What are good drills and exercises in learning to run, pump your left leg for height, kick the right leg, and land the right leg.
I really want to master the flying front kick. I think it will help build an incredibly strong foundation for other kicks later on like the 540. |

The Jump Front Kick feels different from the Jump Inside or Tornado Kick. So being able to tuck the left leg in the jump front may or may not help.
Anyways, for the Jump Front Kick, there is a progression of exercises you can do to master it. Its detailed in the book. But briefly, start by working on the jumping with the left leg tucked and pumping the right leg up and down. Don't kick. Try to land on the right leg. As you get better, you can start adding in the kick. The trick is getting the kicking leg up and down quickly. _________________ Maximize your potential with
